Octal Steel participated in the 2026 Mexican Petroleum Congress (CMP), held from June 3 to 6 at the World Trade Center Veracruz in Boca del Río, Mexico. The congress brought together more than 8,000 participants, providing a platform for technical exchange and business communication across the petroleum industry.
Our participation focused on presenting steel products for drilling, oil production and pipeline transportation, with line pipe as the main exhibition highlight.

During the exhibition, our team presented drill pipe, sucker rods, casing and tubing alongside our line pipe range. Technical exchanges focused on product applications, material selection, inspection requirements and delivery considerations.
These products serve different stages of oilfield operations. Drill pipe transmits torque and circulates drilling fluid through the drill string. Sucker rods transfer reciprocating motion to downhole pumps. Casing supports the wellbore and helps isolate formations together with cement, while tubing provides the conduit for production fluids.
Presenting this range together helped explain how Octal Steel supports requirements from well construction to production and surface transportation. Participation also provided an opportunity to better understand the Mexican market and establish contacts for further project discussions.

Line pipe connects producing fields with processing facilities, storage terminals and transportation networks. API 5L covers seamless and welded steel pipe for petroleum and natural gas pipeline transportation systems.
In oilfield gathering systems, line pipe carries production from wells to separation and treatment facilities. Selection must account for operating pressure, temperature and fluid composition, particularly where water, corrosive gases or solids are present.
For crude oil and natural gas transportation, diameter, wall thickness, strength, toughness and weldability must match the pipeline design. Buried routes also require coordinated external corrosion protection, including suitable coatings and cathodic protection.
Our presentation emphasised the connection between these operating conditions and the supplied pipe, including material requirements, pipe-end preparation, inspection records and traceability.

CMP reinforced our view that effective supply begins with a clear understanding of service conditions. Product specifications become more useful when their implications for installation, inspection and long-term operation are explained.
For Octal Steel, the exhibition strengthened industry connections and deepened our understanding of Mexico’s petroleum sector. We will build on this experience through clearer technical communication, closer specification review and continued support for drilling, production and pipeline projects.
We look forward to meeting you at our next exhibition.
Q: What information is required for a line pipe quotation?
A: Specify the standard, grade, PSL, diameter, wall thickness, length, quantity and inspection requirements.
Q: How do you select the right API 5L line pipe grade?
A: Consider design pressure, temperature, fluid composition, strength and project specifications.
Q: What is the difference between API 5L PSL 1 and PSL 2?
A: PSL 2 has additional requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties, testing and traceability.
Q: What inspection documents should accompany line pipe?
A: Required documents typically include MTCs, test reports, NDT records, dimensional inspection records and heat-number traceability.
